Peter Stonely has more than 20 year’s experience as an operational trading standards officer and more than 15 years as a law trainer. He also spent 5 years as Trading Standards Manager for a major national retailer, working in the UK, Ireland, Germany and Poland. He has worked on trading standards projects in Lithuania, Georgia and Poland. Peter is in the unique position of understanding the law from ‘both sides of the fence’.
Peter specialises in fair trading law and consumer rights law. He wrote the guidance material on the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations for the Trading Standards Institute’s Business Companion. He also designed and delivered training on the Consumer Rights Act 2015 for Trading Standards Services across the UK.
Peter is a Fellow of the Chartered Trading Standards Institute and one of their Lead Officers on Civil law. He is Chairman of the Institute of Consumer Affairs and a Guardian of the Birmingham Assay Office. He is also a contributor to the Consumer Rights section of Consumer and Trading Standards: Law and Practice (Jordan Publishing) – the ‘Pink Book’ is an authoritative and comprehensive guide for everyone involved with consumer and trading standards law.
